How to combine colors and textures - a mini style guide by RESTYLER
Why is it worth experimenting with color and texture?
Second-hand clothes have a soul and a history – their uniqueness is their greatest asset. By consciously combining colours and textures, you can create styles that will make you stand out from the crowd, while at the same time being in line with the idea of conscious fashion.
Style doesn't have to be new to be fresh.
How to combine colors - RESTYLER rules
60-30-10 rule
Use a division of 60% dominant color (e.g. pants, jacket), 30% complementary color (e.g. blouse) and 10% accent color (e.g. handbag).
Example: camel coat (60%), blue sweater (30%), orange handbag (10%)

Color Wheel - Contrast vs Harmony
- Harmony: e.g. beige + caramel + white
- Contrast: e.g. navy blue + orange
- Monochrome: shades of the same color
Colors and emotions
- Green – peace, naturalness
- Red – energy, courage
- Garnet – professionalism
- Pastel pink - romantic
How to combine textures – or “soft and hard”
Playing with textures gives a three-dimensional effect to the styling. In second-hand shops this is especially important – a mix of fabrics allows you to create something new from used items.
Examples of successful connections:
- Jeans + lace – rawness + delicacy
- Wool + Silk – Warmth + Shine
- Corduroy + cotton – retro + casual
- Leather + knit – rock + comfy
Attention:
Don't combine too many "heavy" textures at once (e.g. velvet + corduroy + leather), because the styling may become optically "heavy".
